Mmmm…yummy…Brain Puffs!,
This is my 4th Monster High doll…as well as my 2nd version of Ghoulia. This doll has slightly lighter lipstick (the other version has blood red lips) painted on and the makeup is more subtle than the other Ghoulia dolls. She is dressed in white pajamas that have a blood-splatter print and she is wearing a black miniskirt over the leggings. She has an eye mask to match the PJ’s. Her glasses are a 1950′s horn rim style in bright red. Each version of Ghoulia has slightly different glasses.
Two VERY cute and hilarious details: Ghoulia comes with fuzzy looking (plastic) red monster slippers and the monsters on the shoes are wearing (painted) horn-rimmed glasses too. And a box of “Brain Puffs” which somewhat resembles red popcorn. I found the Brain Puffs really funny. As every horror movie fan knows, zombies eat brains! Ghoulia’s bio claims she likes fast food but apparently she can’t resist the occasional brain food! This is just one of the many funny ways that Monster High pays tribute to old horror films.
I have heard some parents commenting that Monster High dolls look “scary” and “creepy” or whatever. I encourage parents to check out the Monster High webisodes online. For those who don’t know, all the students are supposed to be the children of famous movie monsters. In spite of being monsters, the characters face many normal problems that kids, teens (and some grownups) can probably relate to. The characters also embrace their differences and quirks. Ghoulia in particular is a very well written character. She isn’t a nerd who gets bullied or teased…Instead she is a cool “nerd” who is smart and well liked. The cartoons are not meant to be dark or scary. They are cute, fun and actually have some positive messages for kids. The toys are all great representations of the characters and they all look very much as they do in the cartoons. They all have awesome detail!
I saw a comment here regarding the hair of this doll and I agree. It came out of the package a bit messy! This version of Ghoulia does have slightly wavy hair. The original Ghoulia doll has straight hair. I am not a fan of wavy or curly doll hair in general, on any brand of dolls. It can be hard to style and brush and it tends to frizz over time. However, this doll seems to have good quality hair and in spite of it being wavy it was easy to brush. Only time will tell if the hair gets frizzy or not. So far it looks fine and I have had the doll out of the box for a few weeks. There IS a way to straighten synthetic doll hair but you probably want to read up on it (kids especially) before trying it at home. So far, I have not had to do this with any Monster High doll hair. They all seem to have great hair quality, though it can be a little messy when you first get the doll out of the package.
Other “Dead Tired” dolls have places to sleep…Frankie has an electrifying bed, Clawdeen has a bunk doggie-bed, Lagoona has a rehydration chamber and Draculara has a coffin. Dead Tired Cleo and Ghoulia don’t have beds yet. Cleo will probably have some Egyptian sarcophagus thing but I have to wonder…where do zombies sleep? Hopefully all of us Monster High fans will get an answer to this question soon. I’m sure many of us are just DYING to know!
Either way, this is a great toy. For whatever reason, the joints of both my Ghoulia dolls seem to be better and tighter than the other dolls. I am not sure why this is. It might be luck, or maybe Mattel is making better dolls. I am very happy with this toy and I plan to buy more. I really hope they continue to make more versions of Ghoulia. After watching the cartoon, Ghoulia is my favorite Monster High character!

Ghoulia is the best!!!,
Ghoulia is my favorite of the Monster High dolls. Clawd and Lagoona are right up there, but I think overall Ghoulia is my favorite.
Her Dead Tired packaging is fun to say the least. She comes with stand, brush, slippers, and Brain Puffs snack food. Her outfit is complete with blood splattered pattern pajamas and red rimmed glasses.
I’m looking forward to her Dawn of the Dance and Classroom. Also, don’t forget the SDCC Ghoulia doll will be released soon. She looks amazing in her super hero/comicon outfit.
Highly recommended.
